Rhythm

Your body likes rhythm.  Do you notice how easy it is to get up at a certain time after doing it for awhile?  This is why it is so important to get adjusted at the same time and day that your body is use to.  Each adjustment that you receive in this office builds upon the next and makes your spine 7 times stronger than a spine that is subluxated!  If you miss one of your scheduled and rhythmic adjustments, it can actually set back your healing and corrective care!  We do not have the time to not get adjusted and carry on this beautiful healing process!

Happiness Affects Pain

Has someone ever smiled at you and changed your mood from bad to good?

It is amazing, the amount of love of which we are capable.  All we have to do is share it with others.  Begin that chain reaction that touches a person’s life and inspires them to do great things with the big picture in mind!  It is as simple as a kind glance, a smile, a hello to an unfamiliar face.  It can be more in depth such as listening for a moment of your day to someone who needs a shoulder, or a small gift, a flower of appreciation.

Have you ever had a headache or been in so much pain that it effected your happiness, and the way you treated people?

Do you believe it is possible for you to have affected someone’s life in a negative way because you were in pain?  Do believe someone else could have done the same thing?

We can say that we choose our own state/mood, we can say that we are responsible for how we see the world, but aren’t we also responsible for how we treat each other?  Isn’t it just easier to help those around you live a happier, healthier life, not only by being kind and loving, but helping them as well.

If you know someone who is in pain, and it affects the way they treat you or others, maybe it is time to help them find a way to get healthier in all aspects of their life!

Don’t you believe in the end it is about whether or not we have done all that we can?  Whether or not you believe this, help others because it is the right thing to do.  That is why WE are here, to help you.  We are also here to help your family and your friends, so that the world can be a healthier happier place.  Let’s leave it better than when we came!

Feeling vs Healing

Everyone knows the unanswerable question of “what came first the chicken or the egg?”  Well when it comes to the body and the question of what comes first, the symptom or the disease, you may be surprised at the answer!

Now everyone would agree that the Central Nervous System (CNS) is responsible for the complete control of all functions in the body.  This includes everyday maintenance of homeostasis and the ever necessary immune system response to surprise attacks from viri and bacterian.  With everything that goes on inside it is amazing that we don’t actually feel these things happening.  But your CNS is also responsible for what you feel.

It may surprise you to know that it is only 10% of the nervous system that is responsible for you perceiving pain.  For some, this is difficult to believe, especially when presented with excruciating pain.  The other 90% of the nervous system is responsible for every function of every cell, tissue and organ in the body.  Your actual life depends on this 90%, dictating how well your heart beats, lungs breathe, eyes see, how well you digest, hear, smell, and taste.  Everything.  The bad thing is that you can impinge 90% of a nerve and not feel it as pain.  You will witness though the areas that the nerve innervates perform at a lower level.  Then gradually, dis-ease will begin.  Lastly you may feel pain from the decrease in function.  But before you ever feel anything, the impingement must first happen.

This impingement of a nerve is called a Subluxation.  Subluxations can be caused by a number of traumas beginning with birth and falls during the time we learn to walk and ending with car accidents and stress.  These Subluxations, if left alone, do a great deal of damage to the body that you might not even feel until later on in life.  I am sure you can easily see that by the time you actually feel something, you are already late.

Unfortunately, many of us do wait until we feel a symptom to get help.  It is understandable then that if the Subluxations have been present for years, then it will take time to correct them and the damage that they have done.  In this case one of two things can happen when you are under corrective Chiropractic care.

1. You can feel better immediately, but does this mean you are fully corrected? Not necessarily.  Remember, if it took years to get that way, at least give it some months to heal, regardless of what you are feeling.  This way you can be sure the problem will not surface late because the cause is taken care of.

2. You could feel worse or stay the same for some time.  But does this mean you are getting worse? Not necessarily.  If it took years to get that way, it will take some time to correct.  Pain is not a good measure of the health of your spine.  Have a little faith, we heal on God’s time, not ours.

Either way, the best thing is to correct the cause of the problem, not just rid yourself of the symptom or pain.  We do want you to feel your best, but more importantly we want you to heal at your best level.  And also of great importance, if you have taken the time to correct your problem, maintain your fine results.  Your health is much more important than the oil you change every three months in your car!

No Excuses

These are actual reasons (without embellishment) why some individuals decided not to commit to their chiropractic care recommendations:

    1. “If my insurance does not cover 100% of my care then I don’t want to come in.” (…from a woman with a $10,000 insurance deductible!)
    2. The monthly payment for my care is the same as my new Lexus Payment. Maybe I will fix my spine when my car is paid off in 3 years.”
    3. “My health is not really a priority. I am just looking for a chiropractor who will wing it.”
    4. “It is a real time commitment.” (…from a woman who lost 6 inches in height in the last 3 years from a collapsing spine!)
    5. “But there is no out of pocket expense if I have surgery.” (…from a nurse with a fusing cervical spine who had a $500 insurance deductible.)
    6. You are too serious about my health.  …and I am insulted that you would ask if my health is a priority.” (…from a woman who health was not important enough to even come back to review her x-rays.)
    7. My husband does not believe in chiropractic.  He said if I end up in a wheelchair then I can just blame him.” (…from a 68 y.o. woman with a fusing lumbar spine.)
    8. “I don’t believe those are really my x-rays.” (…from a man who had new films taken at the VA to compare)
    9. “My last chiropractor charged $75 per month for unlimited care for my entire family.” (…from a man with a very degenerated reversed cervical curve who was losing the use of his left arm.  I guess you get what you pay for!  This fee structure is also very illegal!
    10. “It is just too far to drive on a regular basis.” (…from a woman who lived  3 miles away!)

Thank you for making the commitment to making your health better!

    A Drowning Man

One day, a pretty young woman was standing among a small crowd on the deck of a cruise ship sailing from San Diego to the Mexican Riviera.  Out of the corner of her eye, she saw an older gentleman, who was watching the wake behind the ship, slip, falter, and suddenly fall overboard.  Without much excitement, she slowly peered over the edge to see him bobbing and screaming in the turbulent water below.

After hearing the man’s ever-weakening yells for help, another woman frantically ran to his rescue by throwing a life preserver to the drowning man.  The man’s rescuer then, shouting angrily, asked the watcher why she had not offered the drowning man assistance.  The woman then simply replied, “I did not know him.”

This story seems appalling, but how many times have we seen someone in pain, someone hunched over from 50 or 60 years of degeneration, or met someone who has had a recent car accident and we have simply done nothing?  You have experienced great results from your chiropractic care, and know that it can save the life of another.

The next time you see someone who can be saved through chiropractic care, throw them a life preserver and share your chiropractic story with them.  Give them a referral card!  It may just save his or her life

    The Chiropractic Doctorate

Do you know how well educated your Doctor of Chiropractic actually is?

Many people and patients are unaware or misinformed about the education of Chiropractic Doctors. The Chiropractic Doctoral program currently holds pre-requirements of 60 to 90 credit hours.  This stipulation is shared by medical schools.  Conversely, this requirement is rapidly changing in the world of Chiropractic.  Many colleges are now requiring a Bachelors Degree prior to beginning the Chiropractic Doctoral program, something that Medical schools do not require.

Take a look to your right and read through the endless hours of education for your Doctors.

Note D.C.’s hold a minimum of 237 hours more than M.D.’s!

In addition to the education received in school and clinic, Chiropractors are required to have a minimum of 12 hours per year in continuing education (C.E.).  This allows them to maintain the Chiropractic licensure and stay current.  However, the majority of Chiropractic Doctors seeks and completes many times the required continuing education.  This C.E. often comes in the form of weekend seminars/lectures with a  “hands on” portion.  The C.E. does not include the reading and research from endless sources they do in their own time. Chiropractic is one of the fastest growing subjects of study today.  People now more than ever are turning to a more holistic and natural approach to healthcare.  We as a population have become weary of being drugged and operated upon in the event of disease.  We may now look to a future of prevention and preservation of health with Chiropractic and its lifestyle.  Chiropractic as we know it today has been thriving since 1895, though the Egyptians were adjusting/manipulating each other around 2300 b.c.  Still with the length of time we have understood the necessity of Chiropractic care, there is still much to learn.

Are You Eating As Well As You Think – Part 2

Now that you have you food diary, take a moment to really look at what you are eating.  Compared with this hand out you may be able to identify some areas of your diet that need a change

What to Eat ~ This can be best described with one idea.  Eat foods that are closest to the way God made them, or the way in which they were put on this planet.  It is the processing that robs foods of their nutritional values and the additives that make foods toxic to the body.  Carbohydrates are not as bad as you think they are, it is just what kind.  Fresh organic vegetables and fruits are carbohydrates too, and are what should be main sources of vitamins; minerals, fiber, and protein (yes protein).  It is the processed breads, cookies, cakes, chips, white rice, pastas, cereals, bagels, tortillas (not including sprouted grain tortillas) and anything with white sugar, even most fruit juices of which you should be weary.  These types of processed foods are actually dangerous to the body causing great spikes in insulin levels and clogging the colon.  With fresh vegetables the live enzymes actually help your body to digest and give your body energy for later.  Whereas with processed foods the enzymes have been denatured and thus these foods end up stealing large amounts of energy from the body for digestion and give nothing back!  So a large part of your plate should be vegetables and some fruit at every meal.

Add vs. Subtract ~ When beginning to change the way you eat, just start adding the good things.  At each meal, decide to add a vegetable, one small one at a time, or a small salad.  Begin to fill your plate with better foods and eventually they will take over your plate.  Note to that your tastes will begin to change.  When you eat healthier, your cravings for the sweets and processed foods will lesson greatly.  Just give it a little time, remember it takes months to change a lifestyle!

Eat the Good Stuff First ~ Now that you have something good to eat, eat it first!  Eating your vegetables first will not only help to change what tastes good to you, but you will also eat less of the other processed stuff on your plate.  Filling your tummy with salad first will also help aid in the digestion of foods to come later in your meal!

Time to Eat or Not ~ Breakfast is a must and so is lunch.  It is also a good idea to have a couple snacks through out the day, a piece of fruit or some celery and carrot sticks.  Be sure to pick a time in the evening after which you will not eat.  The worst thing to do is eat ice-cream and then go to sleep.

Americans have “super-sized” the Portion! A real portion of meat should actually be about the size of a deck of cards, and one a day is all you need, if that.  Now vegetables and fruits can be served in ½ cup portions and at least seven a day is minimum, but the more vegetables the better!  You should feel satisfied and full, but not uncomfortable at the end of a meal.  It may take a little time to learn this feeling if you are used to eating larger amounts.  Make sure that you are the one who serves yourself and don’t feel like you have to clean the plate in a restaurant.  Americans have completely blurred the how much the body actually needs.  Eating this way will help your body function better and will actually give you more energy!                    Enjoy!

Are You Eating As Well As You Think?

We really are what we eat and assimilate.  Because of this, our health can be measured not just by our size but by what kind of food we take into our bodies.  In this point in time it is difficult to know exactly what to eat and when and in what portions with all the “new research” and “proven diets.”

The one sure thing is to know where to begin and from what point you are actually beginning.  In order to change the way you eat, you must first know what it is that you are currently eating!  Because eating is so fun and full of pleasure for many of us, we may not realize or be consciously aware of what or how much we actually eat.

It is important to remember that this is not just about diet; this is actually about your lifestyle.  Food is a large part of culture and tradition, thus making it a large part of the lives we lead.  So realizing that a change in eating is actually a change in lifestyle may be helpful.  To change your lifestyle may take a long time, months or even years for some people.  Take it slow and one step at a time, and the discomfort of change might not even be noticeable.

So for the first challenge, on the bottom of this sheet is a food diary.  This is where you will be tracking your food intake.  This includes everything that passes your lips, from vitamins, to snacks and condiments, to beverages.  Everything.  Make your food diary for a full week and the results may be eye opening. (Then see part 2

    Can You Be Healthy If…

Your Are Subluxated? – Subluxation is when your spine is damaged or misaligned and puts crushing pressure on a portion of your nervous system, which is your lifeline from your brain to your body.  If there is nerve interference in your body, there is no way for the brain to get 100% f its messages to the body to function optimally.

Your Diet Is Full of Food Additives and Artificial Sweetners? – Sulfites can cause headaches, nitrates cause cancer, some colorings cause attention problems, aspartame can cause migraines, nerve damage, and cancer, saccharine causes cancer, MSG causes nerve death, sulfur dioxide can cause breathing difficulties, and the list goes on and on.  What is wrong with eating food the way God created it… without additives? Start reading labels and try eating organically!  If something can kill you in large amounts, then why would you want to consume any of it at all?

You Overeat? – The #1 killer in America is heart disease.  This is completely preventable.  There are more obese American children in America than ever!  Eat less calorie dense foods, like fruits and vegetables and notice that your cravings for junk food will diminish.

You Smoke? – This one is a no brainer.  450,000 Americans die each year from smoking.  1 person dies for every 3,000,000 cigarettes smoked, and it is estimated that 1 BILLION people will die worldwide from smoking in the 21st century.  Give it up or just don’t start.  You probably do not have too many relatives who are willing to donate a lung to replace yours if you get cancer from smoking.

You Don’t Exercise? – Keep your heart and lungs healthy with regular cardiovascular exercise.  The more cardiovascularly fit you are, the less your heart has to beat to keep you alive.  Decreasing your resting heart rate by just 10 beats per minute equates to 14,400 beats per day, or 5,256,000 beats per year!  At 60 beats per minute, that is like 60 extra days of life for your heart every year!

Your Life Is Full Of Stress? – Can stress affect us physically?  Think about a person with heart disease in a stressful situation.  The result can lead to a fatal heart attack or a stroke!  When we are stressed, our heart rate and blood pressure increase and our digestive function slows down or stops altogether.  Attend one of our free stress management workshops to learn how to lead a more relaxed life.

You Drink Alcohol Regularly? – Alcohol kills your liver, period!  Alcohol is a poison to the body which is broken down by your liver.  It is used from sterilization because not even bacteria can live in it.  So why would you want to feed it to your body cells?

You Take Medication? – All drugs kill – pushed or prescribed!  As estimated by the AMA, PROPERLY PRESCRIBED Medication kills up to 137,000 Americans every year!  That is like the World Trade Center crashing down every day!  Medication does not cure or heal.  It just acts to cover a symptom of malfunction in the body.  Symptoms are healthy signs that something is broken in the body.  Why cover it up?  You wouldn’t cover the engine light on your car with a piece of tape.  Just fix the problem?  Ask you doctor how many of the medications you take you really need.  If you give medication to a healthy person they get sick. Guess what happens when a sick person takes medication.  They get sick too, they just may not feel it!

    Act As If

1 in every 2 Americans die each year from Heart Disease, and 1 in every 3 die of Cancer!  These statistics are 5-20 times higher than the rest of the world, or even in this country 30 years ago.

There are many many lifestyle choices that make these diseases so prevalent.  High cholesterol, stress, lack of exercise, eating a diet high in saturated fat, and many other factors place you in pole position in the race to an early death.

Cancer also has similar risk factors that can be avoided altogether.  Hormone replacement therapy increase the risk of cervical cancer, eating smoked meats and nitrates increase risk of stomach cancer, smoking leads to lung and mouth cancer, high fat diets lead to colon cancer, aspartame causes brain tumors, saccharine causes bladder cancer, and on and on…

If you knew that something would kill you, would you willingly do it, or consume it?  Me neither!  The point is, ACT AS IF you are going to get cancer or heart disease.  Eat organically, exercise at least 3 three times per week, stop smoking, or don’t start altogether, cut the fat in your diet, no more artificial sweeteners, use natural cleaning products.

God gave you a great perfect body, so take care of it!  Make your decisions wisely.  You only live once, and at some point, you won’t be able to get your health back.  Ask any bed-ridden millionaire and he or she would gladly give it all up to be healthy.
